Are You Really A2 in Luxembourgish? Put Your Skills to the Test

You’ve been learning Luxembourgish for some time, and you probably think you’re at A2.

But knowing your level is one thing. Actually mastering it… is something else.

So the real question is:
Can you truly apply/use what you’ve learned?

Not just in class. Not just in exercises.
But in real-life conversations, at work… or even in an exam or in any situation where it really counts?

And this matters more than you think, especially if your goal is to move up to B1, or if you’re considering registering for a B1 course.

In today’s podcast episode, I talk about why:
👉 knowing your level is not the same as mastering it
👉 and why checking your level properly matters before moving to B1.

At A2 level, you should be able to:

  • handle simple everyday conversations
  • talk about your job, your routine, your past experiences, future plans
  • ask and answer basic questions

The key is that you can do this clearly enough to communicate.

The Gap: Knowing vs Using

And this is where many learners get stuck.

In class, everything feels manageable. You recognise the words.
You understand the grammar.

But then real life happens: A colleague asks a question. Or you meet your Luxembourgish neighbor. Or you sit down for an exam.

And suddenly, you realise: I can’t find the right words. You translate in your head.

That gap between knowing and using. You see…. that’s the difference between having A2…and actually mastering A2.

Why This Matters

This is exactly why checking your level properly is so important.

If you move on to B1 too early:

  • you feel overwhelmed
  • you lose confidence
  • your progress slows down

But if your A2 is solid:

  • B1 becomes much easier
  • you participate more; and
  • you finally start feeling confident when speaking

So it’s not about rushing to the next level, it’s about building a level you can actually use.

Our A2 Evaluation Test

And this is exactly why I created a free A2 evaluation test.

Not to label you. But to help you answer one simple question:

Can you actually use Luxembourgish in real-life situations?

The test focuses on:

  • practical vocabulary & grammar
  • real-life understanding
  • Listening comprehension

It’s practical, and gives you a clear picture of where you really stand so you know your next step before moving to B1.

Let me show you 2 examples of our A2 evaluation test:

Beispill 1:

You meet a friend of yours in a café. She does not look very well and you want to ask her what is wrong. Which question do you choose?

  1. Wat ass schlecht?
  2. Wéi geet et Iech?
  3. Geet et dir net gutt?

Correct is: 3

Beispill 2:

Complete the following sentence: Si ginn an de Supermarché …

  1. fir ze akafen
  2. fir anzekafen
  3. fir ze kafen an

Correct is: 2

This is the kind of practical thinking the test is built around.

You can take the full test on my website: https://luxembourgishwithanne.lu/test/a2-placement-test/
It takes about 20–25 minutes.

And once you’ve done it, you’ll walk away with something valuable:

👉 clarity
👉 confidence
👉 a clear next step

So if you’ve been saying “I’m A2”…
this is your chance to confirm it.

Or to discover exactly what still needs work before you tackle B1.

And here’s how to read your result:

👉 If you scored 75/120 points or more:
Congratulations — that means you’re solidly at A2 level 👏

More importantly: it means you’re ready for more.

Ready to finally move from “understanding a bit” to actually speaking Luxembourgish with more confidence in everyday life and at work?

👉 Join our B1 Bootcamp — a small and supportive group (maximum 4 learners) where you actively speak, build fluency, and start using the language naturally step by step.

You’ll practise through real conversations, learn practical phrases you can use immediately, and most importantly… you’ll build the confidence to actually use Luxembourgish in everyday situations.
