Before we start the meeting, why don’t we get around the table and introduce ourselves.
André can you start?
Jo. Moien, mäin Numm ass André, ech si 34 Joer al a si Projectsmanager, ëm … ech hunn hei säit 6 Joer geschafft. Ech managen en Team an Amerika. An.. ëm ech hunn zwee Kanner an ëm ech fuere gär Schi an .. dat ass alles.
Your age? The number of children you have? Your hobbies? And what was that “dat ass alles” in a meeting?
Today it’s a very practical subject:

How to introduce yourself at the beginning of a meeting
Uh, introducing yourself at the start of a meeting seems like a basic thing, but when the pressure is on you maybe you don’t know how to introduce yourself in a nice and formal way. So you just finish with the little words: … an dat ass alles …. Not very appropriate in a meeting especially if it is a formal meeting.
Fortunately it’s very easy to create an interaction that packs a real punch: just keep it simple and short:
Moien, mäin Numm ass Anne Beffort, ech si Projectsmanagerin an ech si responsabel fir en Team vun 30 Leit an Amerika ze leeden. Ech schaffen an der Firma säit 6 Joer an a menger aktueller Postioun säit 3 Joer. Haut schwätzen ech iwwer eis nei Produkter fir de nächste Wanter. Merci.
Einfach, oder ? Easy, isn’t it? Let’s break it down and look at each part.

The basic structure:
1. Your name – Däin Numm – (Virnumm & Familljenumm) You can either say:
Ech sinn d’Anne Beffort oder Män Numm ass Anne Beffort – both are fine
2. Your role in the company in 1 or 2 sentences:
You can use expressions such as:
- Ech si responsabel fir, ech si verantwortlech fir; oder
- Ech schaffen als …. am Service
- Meng Aarbecht ass et ….
Ech si Projektmanagerin an ech si responsabel fir en Team vun 30 Leit an Amerika ze leeden.
You can also just say your job title:
Ech sinn Informatiker or mention your activity: ech leeden de Personalservice
1. How long have you been in the company and perhaps how long you’ve been in your current job. Be careful of your tense in Luxembourgish we use the present tense!!
Ech schaffen an der Firma säit 6 Joer. an a menger aktueller Positioun säit 3 Joer.
2. And finally your role in the meeting: you can say:
- Ech sinn haut hei fir …
- Haut schwätzen ech iwwer …
- Ech sinn an dëser Reunioun fir …
And end with a polite Merci.
So put it all together and have a fantastic, great simple introduction to yourself at the beginning of a meeting and you know exactly what to say.
Now over to you: this is your homework: go ahead and introduce yourself – you can first write it down and then practice it aloud.
