The key to success is being prepared, knowing exactly what to expect and how to answer the most commonly asked questions.
In today’s lesson we will focus on one question you’ll almost certainly hear:

What are your strengths? Wat sinn Är Stäerkten?
This is a commonly asked question at job interviews, and you must be able to answer it well in order to have the best chances to get the job.
So in this lesson you’ll learn:
✅ Why recruiters ask this question
✅ How to answer with clarity and confidence
✅ A simple structure you can follow
✅ A sample answer to get inspired
If you want to boost your chances of landing your dream job in Luxembourg, this episode is for you! Ready to impress in your next job interview?

Why do interviewers ask this question?
Because they need to fill the position with someone who can perform and get along with the team. And that’s why you want to show them that:
- you can do the job
- you have the necessary skills and experience
- your strengths align with the company’s needs
The problem is that many people aren’t comfortable selling themselves or speaking about what makes them great. But it’s important to get over any hesitation and show the recruiter that you’re the right person for the job.
With good preparation and authentic examples, even introverted or shy people can make a very good impression.

How do you answer with clarity and confidence?
First, it’s a good idea to brainstorm and write down everything that comes to mind — including professional experience, soft skills, education, and anything else relevant to the job. Be creative and specific.
👉Beispiller vu Stäerkten – Examples of strengths
- Problemer léise kënnen – problem solving skills
- Teamfäeg sinn = to be able to work in a team
- Kommunikatiounsfäegkeeten – Communication skills
- Zouverlässegkeet – reliability
- Analytesch denken – Analytical thinking
The next step is narrowing down the list to three to max four main strengths and preparing good examples from your professional experience to illustrate each of them.
This is very important because usually the interviewer wants to get to know you better so that they can determine if you’re a good fit and therefore choosing good and relevant examples makes you stand out.
It’s crucial to keep the job advertisement in mind when preparing your answer — your chosen strengths should directly address the job requirements. Employers will hire you based on your skills and qualifications, not simply because you’re a nice person. So mentioning that you’re a vegetarian or a non-smoker isn’t really an appropriate response.
👉Gutt Beispiller – Good examples:
- If you apply for a job as a human resources manager, then highlight your ability to work with people: Ech sinn immens teamfäeg an ech ka mech séier an engem neien Team integréieren.
- If the job includes a lot of client contact, highlight your communication skills: Kommunikatiounsfäegkeeten: Ech leeë grousse Wäert op kloer Kommunikatioun an aktiivt Nolauschteren, fir d’Besoinen vum Client ze verstoen
Now, don’t just mention the strength. Support it with a story, with short sentences. They don’t have to be complex to make a good impression.

Simple structure you can follow
- Answer the question directly
- Choose three specific strengths that are relevant for the job.
- Include an example situation for one or 2 strength
- Describe what you did in this situation
- Give the result of your action
It’s important to think ahead about this question and choose three specific strengths that are relevant to the job. Be authentic, and be ready to back up one or two of your strengths with a good example, clearly stating the result of your actions. Most importantly, keep your sentences short and clear — this will help you communicate confidently and leave the recruiter with the impression that Luxembourgish is also one of your strengths!
Although there is no one-size-fits-all answer for this question, let’s now have a look at a sample answer to get inspired.

Beispill Äntwert - Sample answer
I’ll read it twice - slow spoken & natural
Ech hu ganz gutt organisatoresch Fäegkeeten a passe mech séier enger neier Situatioun un. Dat hunn ech och bei mengem leschte Projet mat asiatesche Cliente bewisen. Besonnesch déi kulturell Ënnerscheeder an déi kommunikativ Barrièren waren eng Erausfuerderung. Awer mir hunn dës Erausfuerderung gemeeschtert an de Projet erfollegräich ofgeschloss.
