Feeling overwhelmed by the oral part of the test?
You would like or you have registered for the Sproochentest to be able to apply for the Luxembourgish citizenship. However you don’t know where to start? Are you puzzled about the content of the oral part of the language test? What is it all about? What are you supposed to talk about? How long does it last? Will I get the results the same day? Either way, it can be tough to find quality resources that provide everything you need to know for the test. But that’s where I come in!
I have put together this article to help you prepare for the oral part of the Sproochentest!
The level of the oral language test corresponds to level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for oral production and interaction.
You must be capable of using simple language and to talk about familiar topics, living conditions, educational background and activities such as your family, your job, your holidays, your hobbys, your daily activities, food and drink habits.

Content and procedure
The oral production test is in two parts:
Part 1: Topics
The examiner and the candidate talk about a given topic. The candidate chooses one of the two subjects proposed by the examiner. Here are the most frequently asked subjects:
Meng Fräizäitaktivitéiten / meng Hobbyen
Meng Aarbecht / meng Formatioun
De Stot maachen & akafe goen
Medien / Liesen
Part 2: Description of a picture
The examiners will show the candidate 3 pictures. These are all pictures showing people, for example: people celebrating a birthday, or a family having breakfast, or people on the “Plëss” or at the Schueberfouer. The candidate will have to choose one of the 3 pictures and describe what she / he sees on it. The candidate has 3-4 minutes to talk.
The whole test lasts about ten to twelve minutes.
The test takes place before two examiners. Each of the examiners assesses you separately as soon as the test has been completed. Some of the criteria are:
- use of basic grammatical structures
- ability to make oneself understood
4. Passing criteria
A candidate passes the Sproochentest (both the oral and the listening parts) if he/she obtains at least half the possible marks in the oral production test. An insufficient score can be compensated by the mark in the listening comprehension test.
